The Manawatu Herald. Thursday, May 4, 1916. FOXTON’S TRAIN SERVICE.
Although the very unsatisfactory manner in which the Foxtou train service is being conducted as far as running up to schedule time is concerned has been repeatedly brought under the notice of the powers that be —the Railway Department —no improvement has yet been effected. It is now many weeks since the Minister for Railways, in response to a communication from Mr W. H. Field, M.P,, stated that he was looking into the matter, but apart from sending an officer to make inquiries and furnish a report to the Department —the nature of which, by the way, has not been made public—nothing has been done, and the business people and residents of the district have to continue to put up with the inconvenience and annoyance caused through the trains arriving in Foxton at “any old time.” It is in cases of this kind that a Chamber of Commerce can do very useful work, and it is a matter for regret that Foxtou does not possess such a body. We would suggest that the Borough Council again bring the necessity of an improvement in present unsatisfactory position under the notice of the Minister for Railways.
