GRAND BAND ENTERTAINMENT.
NP].\T FRIDAY NIGHT
The entertainment to be given in mg next by members of the Queen the Coronat ion Hall on Friday evening next by members of the Quen Alexandra’s Own Regimental Band (Wanganui) in aid of the funds of the Girls’ Guild, promisies to be the best of its kind ever given in Foxion. Practically the whole programme will be contributed by members of the band, and will include such well-known performers as Lieutenant Buckley, Australasia’s champion cornetist, Messrs Charles Austin and R. Boyd (euphonium), and Mr Walter Shepley. Mr Shepley will contribute a concertina solo, which item alone is said to be well worth the price of admission. The programme has been ai'.ranged by Lieutenant Buckley, and the public of Foxton will no doubt show their appreciation of his kindness in bringing the Band to Foxton by rolling up in full force. One of (he most popular and interesting items will be the grand naval fantasia, “A Sailor’s Life.” This selection is probably one of the most spectacular melodies written showing the sailor's life on board a British cruiser, from when the battleship leaves port till its return. For the benefit of those who have never heard a real discriptive selection, we reproduce a synopsis of the “Sailor’s Life,” arranged by S.' Hope ; “Leaving port, heave ho, yeo, ho, yeo,ho ; up anchor ; farewell, remember me ; good bye, sweetheart, goodbye ; (pomposo on the ocean), a wet sheet, and a llowingn sail ; (amusements on board), hornpipe ; (night), a storm approaches, all hands on deck, haul in the bowline ; (storm music), the storm gradually passes ; (religiose), a prayer after the storm ; sunrise (sixbells), song- , “Sailing” ; the alarm sounds the enemy in sight, prepare for action,' England expects that every man will do his duly, call to arms (gun), steady, boys, steady, a volley is tired; battle music (with effects) ; the last gun is heard ; shouts of “Victory !” (grandioso) Rule Britannia ; grand finale. The feature of this selection, will be the vocal work introduced, which will be very interesting and entertaining in this respect. The prices of admission are ; Circle and stalls 2s, pit Is.
