THRILLING' AFRICAN FIGHT.

A thrilling account of a fight, with a fierce black-maned lion is furnished by a Boer who has just come out of the Lower Country, and quoted by a Natal correspondent, of the Express. Two men were concerned —Hans Blom and his brother. In one of their hunts the younger brother encountered a blackmaned lion, usually regarded as the most formidable of the species. He fins!, but only succeeded in wounding the animal, which escaped into a- neighbouring field of reeds, abutting on a vlei or water-course. Not. long after a cry came from the younger brother, and the elder made a bee-line in his direction. He came upon tho scene of a fierce encounter, the lion standing over the prostrate ferm of bis brother, who, however, with great presence of mind had rammed his gun barrel down tho lion's throat. The ?'-!ev blether advanced and fired, putting a bullet straight into the forehead ot the beast and killing him on the spot. Tho younger brother had been badly manlod, a:.d was in a critical condition.
