BURIALS AT LEMNOS.
CAREFUL RECORD KEPT.
The Hon. James Allen, Minister of Defence, has received the following letter from PrincipalChaplain A. V. C. Hordern, of the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force ;
“With reference to yours of the Bth January, 1916, I have the honour to inform you that I have kept a careful record of all members of the M.E. F. buried at Lemnos and elsewhere from the commencement of the campaign. A Central Enquiry Bureau has been formed at the 3rd Echelon, Alexandria, where all my records have been sent. I have forwarded your letter to the officer in charge of the bureau.” The Minister has also received the following letter dealing with the same subject from BrigadierGeneral T. C. O’Leary, Deputy Adjutant • General, 3rd Echelon, General Headquarters, Mediterranean Expeditionary Force : “In reply to your letter of Sth January, 1916, to the Senior Chaplain, British Forces, Lemnos, iEgeau Sea, I beg to inform you that I have instructed the Xew Zealand Records Office here to furnish you as early as possible with all the particulars they have regarding burials in Lemnos. 1 hope this will meet with your approval, and trust that when this information reaches you you will be able to relieve to some extent the anxiety ot the relatives ot men of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force who have so nobly given up their lives."
