SCHOOL COMMITTEE ELECTIONS.

FOXTON. The statutory annual meeting of householders was held at the school last night for the purpose of electing a committee for the ensuing year and adopting the report and balance-sheet. There was an attendance of seventeen. Mr Hornblow was elected chairman. The report and balancesheet (which appears in full on the fouith page) was read and adopted. The were twelve nominations for the nine vacancies, and the following were elected: — Messrs Hornblow, Betty, Perreau, Rev J. H. Bredin, McMurray, Hussey, Dr Mandl, Woods, and McColl. The voting for Messrs Henderson, Woods and McColl was equal, and the Chairman decided who was to stand down by placing the three names in a hat and one out, which happened to be that of Mr Henderson.

On the motion of Mr Hunt, seconded by Mr McMurray, a vote of thanks was passed to the outgoing committee. The mover stated that the Committee had been through a strenuous year, and had done excellent work on behalt of the school. The Chairman moved a vote of thanks to the head-teacher and staff, and stated that the school work during the year, according to the inspection report and the result of the proficiency examination, was highly satisfactory. There had been changes on the staff during the year, which necessarily upset the even running of certain classes for a time. The staff and parents had worked harmoniously with the Committee in promoting the welfare of the school.

Mr Chrystall, in seconding the motion, regretted that his contemplated removal from Foxton prevented his again offering his services to the householders as one of their committee. He referred to the fine spirit of harmony which existed between the Committee and staff, and the pleasure it had afforded him to act' on the Committee. —The motion was carried.

Mr Jackson, on behalf of the staff, thanked the Committee and parents for their hearty co-opera-tion in all matters pertaining to the welfare of the school. The staff, as at present constituted, was a good one in every respect, and parents were to be congratulated in this respect. He thanked the Chairman for bis interest aud hearty co operation. Reference was made to the contemplated resignation of Mr Pirani, Chairman of the Board, and the loss that the cause of education would sustain thereby. The Chairman moved the following motion, w'hich was seconded by Mr C. Hunt, and carried unanimously :—“That this meeting of Foxton householders learns with regret that Mr F. Pirani, Chairman of the Wanganui Education Board, contemplates resigning irom the Board at an early date. It is sensible of the great sacrifices Mr Pirani has made in the cause of education generally, and of this district in particular, and respectfully urges him to reconsider his resignation.”

The Chairman called attention to the unsatisfactory condition of the headteacher’s residence. The building was a disgrace to the Board’s architect, and the appoint-, ments were of a primitive nature. About would be required to put the house in order, and in view of the fact that the Board was in receipt of the rent ot the old and condemned school residence, they would be amply repaid for any expenditure incurred in alterations to the residence. It was resolved to apply to the Board to have the residence brought up-to-date. A vote of thanks to the Chairman concluded the householders’ meeting. COMMITTEE MEETING.

A meeting of the newly-elected committee was held at the conclusion of the householders meeting. Mr Hornblow was re-elected chairman, and Mr R. McMurray secretary and treasurer. The new members were formally welcomed to the committee.

It was resolved to meet the third Tuesday in each month, at 8 p.m., visitors to be appointed in alphabetical order, and reports to be submitted in writing^

The Chairman- submitted an offer from Mrs C. F, Johnston to entertain the children at a picnic at her residence on Wednesday. After fully discussing the matter, it was resolved that Mrs Johnston be cordially thanked for her generous offer, but owing tp the recent closing of the school and the approaching Faster holidays, the date would be unsuitable, and suggesting that the offer stand ever until the end of the year. The meeting then rose.

MOUTOA. | There was only a small attendance at the meeting of house- I holders at Moutoa last night. Mr i W. J. Rees occupied the chair, j The annual balance-sheet, which was adopted, disclosed a very satisfactory position indeed, the year closing with a credit balance of £l2 2s 2d. The following committee was elected for the ensuing year:—Messrs W. J. Rees, E. ■ Pigott, C. Firth, F. Shaw and H. C. Wilkins. At a meeting of the new committee held subsequently, Mr Rees was elected chairman and secretary.
