METHODIST CHURCH.

The quarterly meeting was held in the Methodist Church on Wednesday evening last, the Rev Mr Rowe presiding. The meeting was significant for its tone of spiritual enquiry. Arrangements are to be made for an evangelistic mission to be held at- Shannon in June, to be conducted by the Rev W. Rowe, assisted by local preachers. The need of securing the Rev Val. Trigge, who is conducting missions throughout New Zealand, was also considered advisable, and it is believed that Foxton will be included in his itinerary' about July. The Rev Trigge is from the Victorian Conference, and is an eminently successful evangelist. Much good is expected from his visit. One member of the meeting offered to finance the Mission, It was decided to celebrate Anzac Day on Sunday next, and a retiring collection was authorised for the ‘‘Featherston United Institute.” The balance-sheet for the quarter was considered satisfactory, and Shannon was congratulated upon its returns. Mr Rowe explained that a systematic canvass and personal appeal had been made in Foxton, and had been promised towards the liquidation of the circuit debt. It is believed that with help which will be forthcoming from other preaching places, ,£SO is within sight for the above purpose. The Sunday school reports were encouraging, despite the fact that a mild epidemic of diphtheria is prevailing in the_ Shannon district. ’ Matters relating to the Methodist Times were discussed, and the agent expressed his intention of canvassing Methodists with a view to increasing the circulation of the connexional paper. Holiday leave was granted to the Rev Rowe, who intends visiting his people in the north, and will be absent from the circuit over two Sundays.
