AIR DEFENCES OF PARIS.

In the Paris newspaper Le Matin, Raoul Angles, in peacetime deputy for a constituency in the Alps, now a military aviator, and one who took part in the pursuit of the Zeppelins on their last raid over Paris, sets forth his views bn the aerial defence of Paris. To begin with, he affirms positively that Paris can be effectually protected against Zeppelins. He recommends various measures to complete the darkening of Paris, which he still considers essential. Therefore, antiaircraft guns will be comparatively inefficient unless Zeppelins were unwise enough to come on a moonlit or clear night. Three elements of defence are required : Air cruisers, by which is presumably meant airships as powerful as Zeppelins ; secondly, observation captive balloons in sufficient number and, thirdly, battle aeroplanes, such as already exist, but faster, more powerful, more strongly armed, and above all provided with automatic stabilising apparatus, which already exists, but is not yet sufficiently made use of.
