THE FATALITY OF NUMBERS.

Mr John Kelland, in a lecture on “The Fatality of Numbers,” delivered at Palmerston recently, showed that each person has been allotted by Fate a number which he would carry throughout bis life, and which would appear in all the big events of his lifetime. Mr Kelland took the instance of Mr W. E. Gladstone, “England’s Grand Old Man,” whose number he declared was 5. The lecturer showed how the number was obtained by system from the year and the date of his'birth, and showed very clearly how “5” had become imprinted on the principal events of the statesman’s life.

King Edward VIE, the lecturer said, had the number 7 allotted to him, and he related how he had predicted his death quite simply during the well beloved Sovereign’s last sickness. His calculations had proved entirely correct with the exception of a mistake of 15 minutes in the hour.

The numbers ot other famous men and their effect on their bearers’ lives were also illustrated. At the conclusion of the lecture Mr Kelland asked for birth dates from members of the audience. His readings from the figures supplied were startlingly clever, and his statements seemed to strike home on the persons whose characters he read. Counsel and advice was offered as freely as the publicity of the meeting would admit.
