ABYSSINIA AND THE WAR.
According to an official announcement in the French Chamber, the Emperor of Abyssinia has offered to place 200,000 men in the field, all armed with modern weapons. This army could reach the Suez Canal within four days, and Mesopotamia within five days. German agents are said to have been busy in Abyssinia with the hope either of stirring up a rebellion or of persuading the Emperor to invade the Soudan and engage the attention of a large British force. Apparently these efforts have failed, and the sympathies of Abyssinia lie in the other direction.
