DISLOYAL UTTERANCES.

ELLEN FULLER’S CASE. THE SENTENCE CONFIRMED. Application was made to Mr Poynton, S.M., at Palmerston yesterday. for a re-hearing of the case in which Ellen Fuller was charged with disloyal utterances on the railway station. Mr A. S. Monteith, of Wellington, made the application. Counsel said accused’s mental balance and violent temper were the major factor that caused the trouble. He argued that the words used did not contravene the War Regulations Act, and referred to her age, 70 years. His Worship said the offence was absolutely inexcusable, and he could not see his way to alter the sentence of two months’ imprisonment previously passed, with the exception that the hard labour be remitted.

Leave of appeal was granted
