CORRESPONDENCE.
(To the Editor)
As the matter referred to in the attached report and letter is of interest to Patriotic Societies, and, therefore, to the public generally, we publish same which we received from His Excellency the Governor :
A meeting of the Central Council of the Order of St. John and the New Zealand Branch of the British Red Cross Society was held at “Elmwood'’ Christchurch, at 10 a.m. on Friday, the 23rd, under the chairmanship of His Excellency the Governor, at which the following members were present: Mr C. P. Powles, Mrs J. P. Luke, Mr W. Allan, Wellington Military District; Mr J. A. Flesher, Christchurch ; Mr B. Tripp, Timaru ; Mr J. P. Hays, Nelson ; Mr J, E. Bone, Dunedin ; Mr Glendiuing, Otago ; Miss McLean, Southland. The following resolutions were carried unanimously : 1. Proposed by His Excellency the Governor, seconded by Mr Tripp, that : Lieutenant-Colonel W. H. S. Moorhouse act as officer in charge of the Central Department in Wellington. 2. Proposed by Mr Flesher, seconded by Mrs Luke, that: In response to an appeal from His Excellency the Viceroy of India, bandages, surgical dressing, body belts, essence of beef, essence of mutton and condensed milk, be forwarded for use of troops in Mesopotamia. 3. Proposed by Mr Bone, seconded by Mr Powles, that : The Officer in charge of the Central Office be authorised on the authority of the Governor to settle matters of extreme urgency by calling a meeting of the Central Council, three being a quorum, (one from each centre) under the chairmanship of His Excellency or a deputy chairman appointed by him.
4. Proposed by Mr Allan, seconded by Miss McEean, that : Expenditure to the amount of say ,£3OO per annum be authorised for executive expenses, to be apportioned equally among the military districts represented on the Council.
