WHAT CAN I DO?

To the School Children of New Zealand. Dear Boys and Girls. —On April 25' many of our Brothers and Fathers landed on Gallipoli. When the news flashed over the cables, the whole world seemed to stand still for a moment in wonder. They had achieved “the impossible.” We have received a letter from Wellington signed “Uncle Tom,” who writes asking the children to do something big on April 25 : “I am pleased with your league Orphanage scheme. Boys and girls, what do yon say to Uncle Tom’s suggestion ? Are yon game to do something big off your own bat ? Many little Iroys and girls have lost their father during the war, and they have been nearly forgotten. Would yon like to show them that yon have not ? I have before me a letter stating that the Salvation Army want to erect five homes —at Auckland, Dunedin, Christchurch (2) and Island Bay—and the whole will cost 000.. Canyon help ns ? What do you .say, boys and girls, to celebrating April 25 by making a present to the little orphans. I’ve been told it’s impossible, it’s too big a thing to do. It yon will have a try, get up concerts, sports, bazaars. Sell anything that is your very own. Please don’t collect money or have raffles. Let everything be your service. It’s kind action we want and to show our lighting men we don't forget ; shall we call April 25 Forget-Me-Not Day ? Our treasurer was at the landing on Gallipoli and saw some fathers fall, leaving their children to your care. Goodbye ! I hope when you’re grown up and have farms and businesses of your Own you will employ the orphan children you now help ; it’s your service to the nation.” Can you do the impossible on April 25. Write us what you can do. F. Norris, Hon. Organiser National Service Teague. Masterton. ,
