FOXTON PATRIOTIC SOCIETY.
A meeting of all members of the Patriotic Society and the general public is called for nest Friday night, at 7.30 o’clock, in the Town Hall supper-room, to consider the new recruiting scheme introduced by the National Government. It will be remembered that the scheme was not accepted by the Foxtoc Borough Council, which favours immediate conscription, and the Patriotic Society now invites the public to join in discussing this all important question, Indies are invited to be present, especially members of the Eadies’ Sewing Guild and the Girls’ Guild. The Society invites a free discussion, which is open to all. The lady collectors under the Patriotic Box scheme for household collections will commence the first collection of donations on Wednesday (to-morrow). The ladies should shear in mind that , the boxes are opened by simply cutting the thin red paper at the bottom of the box, and the inside of the box comes out, and when put back is fastened with gum paper on each side of the box. The secretary will be in attendance each evening, from 5 to 5.30 o’clock, at the patriotic shop, to take over the collections.
The Patriotic Shop had a successful day last Saturday, under the charge of Mesdames KerrHislop, Kellow, and Aitken. The gifts were numerous and varied, and were received from the following donors : —Mr and Mrs P. W. Scott (Oroua Downs), James Robinson, Proctor sent., Aitken, Jas. Stevenson, Kent-Johnston, a Friend, Dr Kerr-Hislop, Messrs Wm. Ross, A. Fraser, Underwood, Greig, V. Withers, Freeman, Kellow, T. Bowe, Hughes, and Bullard.
