ACCIDENTALLY SHOT.
DEATH OF MAORI VETERAN. Gisborne, Feb. 25, Wm. I*. Stephenson, aged 85 years, a Maori veteran, and one of the oldest residents of Poverty Bay, was accidentally shot in the abdomen to day, and died before reaching the hospital. Mr Stephenson intended to shoot a dog which had been worrying his sheep and it is believed that when dismounting from his buggy the reins caught in the trigger of the gun, with fatal results.
