The Manawatu Herald. Saturday, February 19, 1915. THE PALMERSTON-FOX-TON TRAIN.
It is time the Foxton public forwarded a strongly-worded protest to the General Manager of Railways concerning the late arrivals of the train from Palmerston N. The delays in the arrival of the mails, which is a matter of vital importance to business men to say nothing of the inconvenience caused to the travelling public, is nothing short of scandalous. The delays are caused by the stoppages for shunting operations at the nine side stations on this 24 mile run. The time has long since arrived when the department should run a regular goods train to cope with the congestion on this line, and allow the ordinary passenger train to run up to time. We urge the Borough Council, as the only local governing body, to take this matter up and see if some improvement can be effected, for the department will not move in the matter so long as the public raise no complaint. We ask contemporaries >to assist us in bringing the delay under the notice of the General Manager.
