ACCIDENT AT LONGBURN.
LABOURER SERIOUSLY INJURED. As the Foxton train was moving out of Lougburn station last evening, a horse driven by a labourer known as Ted Pentecost, which was standing between Baigent’s boarding house and Birch Bros, bakery took fright and bolted across the line in front of the train. The horse got clear across the line but the engine crashed into the back wheel. Pentecost was thrown out on to the cowcatcher, his head going below it. The engine had gathered speed and travelled about a chain and a half before it could be pulled Up. Pentecost was pulled from bis precarious position and received first aid from Dr. Bett. He was later removed to the Palmerston Hospital where it was found that he had sustained a face wound and was suffering from concussion and shock. Pentecost is expected to recover.
