RESOLUSION AT WANGA-

NUI MEETING,

Wanganui, Eeb. xG

A representative meeting of members of local bodies of the Wanganui district was held tonight to discuss the Recruiting Board’s circular. On the motion of the Mayor it was unanimously resolved : “That this meeliuc is of opinion that the exigencies of the military situation demand greater efforts than can be obtained by voluntary service and that if salisiactory results be not achieved under the present scheme urges the Government to follow the lead of Great Britain and establish some form ol compulsory service in the Dominion.”

A. second motion moved by Mr W. A. Veitch M.P. that wealth and war properties should be taxed on a graduated scale to meet the cost of the war was also unanimously carried. It was decided in the interim to use all efforts to stimulate recruiting.
