FLAXMILL FIRE.

ATIKI MILE TOTAEEY

DESTROYED

Just before 5 o’clock yesterday afternoon Mr R. H. Nimmo’s Atiki flaxmlll at Moutoa was totally' destroyed by fire. H appears that one of the employees was burning some rubbish and the flames from same spread to the scutching shed, which was full of fibre at the time, and the whole building was soon a mass of flames. The fire spread with such rapidity that it was absolutely impossible to check it or save anything, the whole plant being demolished in a very short time. There was no insurance on the plant or buildings and Mr Nimmo is a very heavy loser. At the time of the outbreak there was between five aud six tons of fibre in the scutching shed and the whole ot this was destroyed.

It is understood the plant will be re-erected and in the meantime a night shift will be worked, Mr Gibbs having placed one of his mills at Mr Nimmo’s disposal for this purpose.
