TOWN CLERK’S REPORT.

The Town Clerk reported as follows at last night’s Council meeting :

“I beg to report that the - road staff has been engaged as under since last meeting, viz,; cleaning channels Main, Hall, Park, Cook, Clyde, Whyte, Liddell, Wharf and Union Streets ; putting in culverts for Messrs W. Ross and C. Hood, and Mrs Dudson ; cleaning footpaths in Main and Cook Streets ; pegging off and forming footpath from Avenue Road to Thynne Street in Russell Street; spreading metal Lady’s Mile and Duhcan Street; putting in culvert at Hall Street near Manawatu Hotel and metalling approach thereto ; carting tar and mending holes with tar in Main Street; filling in holes in Avenue Road, Thynne and Russell Streets. After all the holes which have been lately repaired in Main Street have been tarred, it is the intention to use the balance of the tar by going over the east side of Main Street again as far as the tar will allow. In connection with the formation of the proposed footpath along Russell Street, I would Suggest that any further work there be postponed until the wet weather comes owing to the ground being too dry at present, and that before anything more is done on this work that the Public Works Committee inspect the site of the proposed footpath, as there will be a large amount of material to be removed, in fact, the whole work is bigger than was anticipated and the Council will have to decide as to wnat form of protection will be given to the bank at Mrs Wanklyn’s property if the present one is cut right back as will be necessary if the proposed footpath is put through to Robinson Street.”
