The Manawatu Herald. Tuesday, January 25, 1916. CONFERENCE RE RAILWAY MATTERS.

Wk are reliably informed that the Royal Commission in connection with the wharf question and railway matters will probably sit early in February. The Harbour Board can attend to the wharf question but what about railway matters ? The linking-up of the Main Trunk Line between Greatford or Martou and Eeviu is a matter of vital importance not only to this district but to the whole Dominion. Are the districts directly concerned going to let the opportunity pass or will the local bodies between Levin and Taihape get an immediate move on by convening a conference of delegates to arrange details and marshal facts iu support of railway extension to be presented to the Commission. Cabinet has provided an opportunity for submitting to Parliament the necessity or otherwise of linking-up the Main Trunk Eine and acquiring and extending the Sandon tramway, but if the districts concerned do not take the agitation up enthusiastically it may be shelved for years. There is no time to lose and a conference should be convened immediately.
