FOXTON LADIES’ GUILD.

The following report was submitted and adopted at the last meeting of the local Ladies’ Guild :

“In presenting to you this report of the Foxton Ladies’ Patriotic Guild for the ten months ending December 31st, 1915, it is necessary to explain why we are departing from the usual course, that is, of presenting the report and balance-sheet at the close of twelve months’ work. During the ten months of the Guild’s existence the advantages of joining the British Red Cross Association became distinctly apparent. It was therefore deemed advisable to join, that association and make the new financial year begin with January Ist, 1916. thereby fitting in with the workings of the Association, of which the Foxton Ladies’ Patriotic Guild is now a branch. We have been informed by the secretary of the Head Office in Wellington that there is no necessity for our local branch to seek incorporation under the War Act, as they are already incorporated under that Act, and this includes our Guild. A meeting of the Committee has been held once every month, wjien all correspondence was dealt with and accounts passed for payment. Proposals of any importance have always been discussed, first in committee, and then placed before the Guild. During the ten months, we have forwarded five large cases to, the High Commissioner in London for the poor of Great Britain and Belgium, and have received acknowledgments of same. Thirteen cases of hospital equipment and equipment for the men at the front have been forwarded to Wellington, and 350 sand bags were sent to the Defence Department for consignment. The Guild also did their share in conjunction with the ladies of Foxton in sending cases of plum puddings and cakes to the men at Rangiotu camp. The balance-sheet shows our expenditure during the ten months to have been 8s 3d, and in addition to this we had donations of material to the value of We have to thank the public of Foxton, who have so generously contributed to our funds, and trust, while the war lasts and it is necessary to carry on this work, that they will continue to support us.”
