FOXTON RACING CLUB.
! Nominations for all events, including Trial Slakes first day and Maiden Hack second day, for the Foxton Racing Club’s annual meeting to be held on the 22nd and 24th instants, close with the secretary to-morrow night at nine o’clock. As the programme has been made very attractive as far as stake money is concerned the reresponse from,' owners Ibis year should be very good. The total prize money has been increased by making the amount to be distributed during the two days £'2loo. The Cup is worth £3OO and increases have been made In several other events, no race being worth less than too sovereigns. In past years the short distance open events have been very sparsely, patronised by owners and the stewards this year have rightly made an alteration in the conditions ot the races, making them weighl-foi-age with certain penalties, which should be responsible for drawing much larger nominations. Altogether the programme is a very good one and the uomilutious this year should constitute a record.
The local racing club has decided that this year the whole of the profits shall be devoted to the Sick and Wounded Soldiers’ Fund and consequently this fund should he very materially increased as a result of the meeting. The tender of Messrs Cameron and Wyeth at ,£252 10s has been accepted tor the gates at the forthcoming meeting. Last year the price paid for the privilege was £273, but it is generally understood that the tenderer on that occasion finished up on the wrong side of the ledger on the two days operations. RACECOURSE TRUSTEES’ REPORT. As usual there was only an attendance of about half-a-dozen at the public meeting held in the Racing Club office on Thursday afternoon to receive the annual report of the trustees of the Manawain (Foxton) Racecourse. Mr John Kebbell, chairman of Trustees, presided, and the report as follows was read and adopted. —The Trustees beg to report that the amount iu the Post Office Savings Bank on March 31st, 1915, was ,£l9 12s 4d, which has been increased to-day by ,£4 i3 s » balance of rent due on August xst, last, making a total of ,£24 5s 4c! with some interest to be added next month. Messrs Robinson and Thynne have certified to the correctness ot the accounts. Since the last annual meeting the Racing Club has expended about ,£6o on maintenance of buildings and fencing so the course and buildings are all in good order. With regard to the resolution passed last meeting asking the trustees to fence in the ground on the south and east ot railway the trustees were willing to do so but Mr Gibbs made a proposition which would have required a special meeting of trustees, which, however, was not called as Mr Robinsou considered it would be advisable to wait until after the meeting of the Foxton Racing Club. There appears to be no, chance of getting the Borough Council to plant the land after It is fenced. The trustees have today passed a resolution authorising the chairman to notify the Foxton Borough Council to remove the road encroaching on the the land.
