MANAWATU MEETING. The Mauawatu Racing Club’s summer meeting opened yesterday. It had been-raining practically all night, and continued until midday with the result that the course and grounds were covered with pools of water, and the going was on the heavy side. The rain in the morning bad a detrimental effect on the attendance, the small number of ladies present being particularly noticeable. A consequence of the smaller attendance was a falling off in the totalisator figures, over less being handled yesterday than the corresponding day last, year. The racing throughout was interesting, the handlcapper concealing the winners fairly well. The fields, however, were on the small side, particularly in one or two races. Only two Foxton owned horses competed yesterday, and their record was a first and a second, Princess Moutoa winning the Grandstand Handicap and Master Moutoa, getting second in the Mauawatu Cup.
