RHODES SCHOLAR, 1915.
LIEUT. ATHOL HUDSON SELECTED.
The committee to whom is en* trusted the selection of the Rhodes Scholar met on Tuesday at Government House. His Excellency the Earl ot Liverpool presided. The candidates put forward on behalf of the four university colleges were: —Mr Athol Hudson (.Wellington), Mr F. A. Airey, B.A. (Auckland), Mr Arthur Ponder (Canterbury), and Mr J G. Anderson (Otago). After very full consideration, the committee ultimately selected as Rhodes Scholar for 1915 Lieut, Athol Hudson, the candidate of Victoria College, Wellington.
The new Rhodes Scholar is at present a member ot the Expeditionary Force in training at Trentham, holding the rank of second lieutenant. He is 21 years of age. He was educated at Nelson College from 1903 to 1906, and at the Waitaki Boys’ High School, Oamaru, from 1907 to 1911 (inclusive). Since leaving school he has been an undergraduate of Victoria University College up to the present year, and has a fine record. Early in August, 1914, he enlisted for service, and as a corporal, went with the Advance Expeditionary Force to Samoa. Since returning, he has received his commission as second lieutenant, and is at present in training at Trentham. On the athletic side, Eieut. Hudson also has a very fine record.
