BOWLING.

Yesterday was an ideal day for bowling and a very enjoyable time was spent on the green. The first match for the Nye Ferns was played, the holders successfully defending their right to retain the trophies. Another match for the Ferns will be played next Wednesday, the challenging team to be skipped by Woods. Afternoon tea was provided by Miss E. Ross. Whibley (5; 20 beat Ruffell and Hislop (scr) 13,TattnclI and Woods (5) 2 1 beat Freeman and Rimmer (3) 17. In order to encourage evening play, Mr Hall has presented a trophy for a singles handicap competition, open to all players, no match to be commenced before six o’clock iu the evening, each player to play every other player and the one scoring the most wins to get the prize. The handicappers will meet to-night to handicap the players and the competition will be commenced immediately. The third round of the Golder Cup competition will also be drawn to-night.
