FOXTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.

COMMITTEE REPORTS. The following Committee reports were read and adopted at Monday night’s meeting of the Borough Council: — GAS WORKS. Meeting held on November 15th. Present: The Mayor and Crs Henderson, McColl and Coley, Mr Baker, retort setter* was also present by invitation. After inspecting the old bench of retorts it was resolved that Mr Baker be employed to repair the old retorts by day labour at 18s per day, the work to be completed within three months, the Council to find any material necessary. PUBLIC WORKS. Meeting held at Rose’s mill on December and. Present: The Mayor and Crs Henderson and Coley. An apology for absence was received from Cr Thompson. The Committee met Mr Rose and pointed out to him that the road was \Yi chains wide opposite his mill. Mr Rose expressed himsell as satisfied and agreed to pay the rent due. It was resolved that the Foxton Cordage Co. be written to and advised that the Council notices that Mr Rose is erecting a flaxmill on one of their sites without the Council’s permission being asked for the transfer and that from next rent day the Council will collect same from Mr Rose. It was decided on the motion of the and seconded by Cr Coley, that a seven-wire fence be erected fJear the pound to protect the willows which have reseutly been planted along the bank of the river. Proposed by Cr Henderson, seconded by Cr Coley and carried, that the Town Clerk be instructed when charging up tar for maintenance or other sales, to charge tor the casks as containing 42 gallons as has always been the custom, and that he notify the gas manager accordingly, FINANCE. . Meeting held on December 10. Present: The Mayor and Crs Whibley, Freeman and Simmons. It was resolved that the accounts submitted, amounting to 12s 4d, be certified to and recommended for payment, L.IBRARY. Meeting held on December 13. Present: The Mayor and Crs Freeman, Bryant and Stevenson. It was decided to obtain eleven new volumes.
