The Manawatu Herald. Tuesday, December 14, 1915. SUNDAY DRUNKENNESS.
Three men wearing the King’s uniform, and under the influence of liquor were to be seen in Main St. on Sunday night. The military authorities have done all that is possible to warn the public against placing liquor temptations itt the way of the men whose welfare we have so much at heart. But there are some thoughtless Individuals who can only demonstrate their good fellowship for the boys who are making the supreme sacrifice tor King, home and Empire by filling them up with liquor! The majority of young fellows who have enlisted possess sufficient will power to withstand such temptations, hut the weaker ones fall iu, and while under the influence so conduct themselves as to bring disgrace upon their uniforms. The men who fill them with liquor, whether licensed or, not, under the circumstances, deserve to be severely dealt with. Further we desire to say that too much Sunday drunkenness is apparent in Foxton of late, aud we call the police authorities attention to it. It is time au example was made of some one, as this sort of thing is becoming a public scandal.
