PATRIOTIC SOCIETY.

HOUSEHOLD COLLECTING

SCHEME

The boxes lor the collecting scheme initiated by the above Society are expected to come to baud within tbe next few days. Arrangement? have been made to distribute them a« soon as pos sible In order lo enmre he success of the scheme we give the following outline of it, and com mend it to the careful consideration of every household The object is to collect cash for the Wounded Soldiers Fund. The advantages of the scheme are as follows : It is systematic, By putting away weekly contributions it entails no hardship on any one, and mounts up to a considerable sum in the aggregate. None are precluded from helping the scheme. The smallest contributions will be as welcome as the largest, and every one will be afforded an opportunity to give according to their means. Remembering the sacrifices being made dally for us, we should each try and sacrifice something in reluru. The collecting will be as follows : The town has been divided into sections, and members of the Tadics' and Girls’ Guilds have undertaken to be responsible for different sections. Kadi box is numbered, and as the box is left at each house tbe distributor makes a note of the number. At the end of tbe month the collector calls, opens the box, enters the amount in a book opposite the number of the box, and also on the box itself. When every house has been visited, the collector hands in a statement bearing only the numbers, and not names, of contributors to the treasurer, to get her with the amount received. It is intended to publish only the amount teceived each month, and not tbe names of the subscribers. We hops the scheme will he given a fair trial, not only because of the worthiness of tbe object, but because it will mark our appreciation by direct giving without receiving an equal measure of Inn in return.
