The Manawatu Herald. Thursday, December 2, 1915. WAR PENSIONS ACT.
Commenting on the press criticisms of the administration of the War Pensions Act the Wellington Post says its opinion to-day is that the case against the Act has received a much thicker layer of black than the brush of accuracy could put on. A kind of parrotcry agitation has set in, and many seem to b,e joining in the chorus with very scant knowledge of the score. If it can be shown that the letter of the Act and the administration are inflicting hardships on numbers of people, the cost of summoning Parliament would not seem formidable to the taxpaj ers —the general public—by contrast with the wrong to be righted, but the evidence of hardship on an extensive scale has yet to be produced. The Government could not be expected to take action as the result of Mr Fletcher’s circular to members unless the replies that are to come lurnish much better material than the contents of the letters already received.
