NEWS OF FATHER DORE.
Last week the Rev Father Cronin received a letter from the Rev Father Shanahan, of Plymouth, under date October 3rd, conveying news of the Rev Father Dore, who was severely wounded at* Gallipoli some time since, and about the nature of whose injuries nothing definite had been previously stated. The writer states that our troops, with whom Father Dore was associated, took the offensive and drove the Turks back some distance. Father Dore got down to the valley between the two hills and cared for the wounded there. On the following morning he went down again, and as the Turks had command of a position overlooking the valley, he had to run for his life, a distance bf thirty yards in the open, from the trenches in one hill to the trench in the other hill. While crossing the open the bullets whistled around him, but he was unscathed. While in the trench, some soldiers told him to lie down as the Turks could enfilade the trench. He did so, and after a time a Connaught Ranger tried to cross the open space, but was wounded. Father Dore stood up, and was tying some things together to haul the wounded man in, when he and another were wounded. Father Dore was wounded in the hip, and it was feared for a time that the spine was injured, but the writer states that he can now move his limbs a little, and it is hoped that the spine is alright. His temperature was very high for a time, and be got little sleep, and his recovery wasidespaired of, but he took a turn for the better, and hopes to be well in three or four months’ time. The writer adds that Father Dore wishes to be remembered to all his friends. Father Dore is in the military hospital at Stoke, Devonport.
