The Manawatu Herald. Saturday, November 27, 1915. HORTICULTURAL SHOW.
The Spring Show of the local Horticultural Society was brought to a close last night. The exhibits on the whole, were good, but there are a number of residents, with charming gardens, who for some reason or other are not exhibiting. This is to be regretted for several reasons. The society exists lor educational purposes and to foster a love for all that is beautiful, and there Is no more fascinating or profitable hobby than gardening. The society has accomplished a wonderful amount of good work in Foxton, and has added a pleasant environment to many homes where previously only a few vegetables were grown. The society justifies every encouragement, and is a splendid asset to the town. The committee consists of enthusiasts, and they give their lime ungrudgingly to develop the welfare of the institution. The children, too, are taking a keen interest in the shows, and every year sees an increase in entries from them. The society has been fortunate in having at its head such a splendid executive, and while they continue in office the institution will flourish. The Horticultural Society has never lacked vitality since it was called Into existence, and every one who cultivates flowers, vegetables or fruit should link themselves to it. While the Spring Show this year, put up a record in point of entries, yet the exhibits in cut blooms, and vegetables could easily have been doubled had the growers done their duty. However, we congratulate President Stiles, Secretary Patterson, and the energetic committee on the success of this year’s Spring Show.
