NATIONAL REGISTER.
* CLASSIFICATION COMFI,HTK. The mat king of the National Registration cards with the area groups and the numbers which indicate occupations (according to the census system) is complete, and it is expected that the general classification will be finished today. This means that each card will be marked with one of the twenty-two classification numbers, but it does not imply that the authorities will be able to give out any totals for the various divisions. Much work lies between to day's stage and the announcement of the count, but it is anticipated that the Minister of Internal Affairs (the Hon. G. W. Russell) will be in a position some time next week to give approximate figures, if not the final official statement. The classes are: (i) Men accepted for military service; (2) British subjects between the ages of seventeen and eighteen years ; (3) to (7) men willing to serve in a military capacity (these are in four grades, according to dependents and other circumstances ; (8) to (12) men willing to serve in a civil capacity (the classification is similar to the preceding one) ; (13) to (17) men not willing to do any national work, civil or military (classified in the manner of the two preceding groups); (18) men rejected for military service ; (19) all British subjects physically incapable of military service ; (20) foreign subjects; (21) British subjects of forty-five years and over (now exempt from military service); (22) soldiers who have returned from the war.
