CORRESPONDENCE.
(To the Editor.)
Sir. —In respect to the local young man with a family of five small children, who you mention as having enlisted for the front, it would be interesting to know if he has made adequate provision for them. If he has been able to do so it may be alright, otherwise his action, to my mind, is quite wrong. The time may come when men with families will have to join the reinforcements, but that time is not yet, and a man with five small children has five most excellent reasons for not enlisting till those who have no dependents have gone. To those who say, “Why doesn’t this mau enlist who is writing ?” Well, I have notified the Government, per registration, that I’m perfectly willing id be come a member of the Fvxpeditionary Force when wanted, and I don’t mind in what capacity.— Yours, etc., Albert George Huntley. P.S. —I might add that the Government is not holding out much inducement for married men to come forward. From what I can gather, there is no such thing as a pension by right to the widow of a man killed in action or who dies of wounds or disease. At present the amount of the pension paid in every case is determined by the War Pensions Board, who grant allowances as they think fit. Married men want something more definite than that. —A.G.H. [We will publish the provisions of the Act, which may be of interest to our correspondent and the public, in our next issue.— Ed. H.]
