CHEESE FOR TROOPS.

The Right Hon. W. F. Massey informed a Post representative on Wednesday that instructions have been forwarded from the Imperial authorities to the New Zealand Government to requisition fairly large quantities of cheese for Army purposes. The arrangements in this connection, he added, would be similar to those which have operated so well in the export of “Imperial meat.” Good prices would be paid, but not speculative prices. It was estimated that the arrangement would involve the expenditure of something like Details of the scheme In regard to supply and transport are now being worked out. Mr Massey went on to say that at meetings held at Havvera and Dunedin a few weeks ago cheesemakers expressed their willingness to assist the Imperial Government in securing supplies in New Zealand for the use of the troops, and it was resolved that nothing in the way of exploitation should be attempted or allowed.
