The Manawatu Herald. Thursday, October 28, 1915. BELGIUM’S NEW ARMY.
It is stated In reports trom Havre, which have come to hand by the last English mail, that the Belgian Army is now in a remarkable state of efficiency and in the best of spirits. From England and Fiance all unmarried Belgians up to the age of 25 have been called up, and it is proposed to summon to the colours at a laier period men up to the age of 30, or possibly 35- The national spirit of the Belgian troops has been greatly upheld by the fact that they are firmly in possession of Belgian territory. Subjected to daily bombardment from the enemy’s guns, the Belgian Array maintains a solid front, and is ready at any moment to co operate effectively with the Allies. The period that has lately elapsed has been employed in gelling the men who have gone through so much into a state of complete efficiency, and to-day the troops are well supplied with arms and munitions and equipped with new uniforms of khaki. In fact, the army is in first-rate condition and ready for anything.
