BOWLING.
The pairs tournament held by the local howling club yesterday was a great success, and created keen interest among members. Twenty-four players took part, play commencing at 10 a.m. From seven o’clock in the morning, several enthusiastic members were working on the green, assisting the caretaker, with the result chat the ground was in lip lop condition 'when play commenced. In the aiteinoon li e ladies held a tournament on the croquet lawns, in which some very interesting games were played. Afternoon tea was dispensed by lady member:;, to whom the thanks ol the Club are due. Frio; !o the; commencement ol play in the morning, Mr Petrie, president ol the Club, briefly announced the conditions governing the tournament, and wished numbers an enjoyable clay’s play • ■ following were the handicaps ol the pairs taking part Hooker and Petrie scr., Lumsden and D. Whibley scr., Cronin mid Nye scr,, Robinson and Woods scr,, Walker and F. Whibley scr., Parkes and Bali scr., Tattnell and McColl scr., Smith and Spring .scr., Large and Riramer scr., Barr and Acimore 2, Ruffell and Heasman 5, and Betty and Healey 5. Five rounds were played, Large and Riramer and Betty and Healey scoring four wins each, necessitating a final between these two teams. This was a very interesting game, Rimmer and his partner winning by the narrow margin of two points. Both teams were heartily cheered for the good perlormalice put up.
