LETTER FROM THE FRONT.
Writing from Anzac Landing under date August 25th, Driver “Bob” Bowe, son of Mr and Mrs T. Bowe, of Marotlrl, who is a member of the Fifth Reinforcements, says: “We arrived here on August 9th, and were put on carrying ammunition, dragging guns into position, trench digging, and so forth. It was pretty warm work, and are now getting quite expert at dodging shells. There is one Turkish battery over near Achi Baba that keeps on shelling the beach here; they call it “Beachy Bill,” and no one is able to locate it. She usually pumps shells about ro a.m., aud again at 4 p,m. , . . Our artillery have done some splendid shooting here at different times, especially No. 2 Battery. First after landing they were sent iu on the side ot this hill and played on to Quinn’s Post. They mowed the “unspeakable’’ down in hundreds, just about twenty yards over the heads ot our intantry, too. Complimentary messages came iu from all quarters : ‘Your shooting magnificent,’ etc. . . . The Maoris are fighting like Trojans. They got up the other day and danced a haka, then charged and captured two trenches.”
