ROYAL LIFE-SAVING SOCIETY.

DEMONSTRATION AT BEACH TO-MORROW.

ARRIVAL OF THE DEMON

STRATORS

The. Wellington centre of the Royal Life-Saving Society will give a public demonstration at the seaside to-moirow afternoon at 2,30 o’clock, The life - saving reel and other apparatus arrived by the Queen of the South yesterday aud the demonstrators to the number of twelve were met at Levin by the Mayor on arrival of this morning’s train and conveyed per motor car to Foxlon in cars kindly provided by the Mayor and Messrs Jas. Robinson, C. Simmons and P. G. Jackson. The teams will “bach" in Mr Hornblow’s cottage at the beach until Monday morning when they will be taken to Levin where they will give a demonstration at the. public baths there, and arrive home on Monday evening. The parly is in charge of Messrs J. A. Duffy andO. H. Neal, while all the arrangements are supervised by the Wellington centre secretary, Mr W. C. Collier. The teams will indulge in practice this afternoon and select a suitable locality for the demonstration.

No provision has been made, so far as we know, to convey the public to the locality to morrow, but the distance is not far to walk.

The demonstration is of the utmost importance to Foxton and seeing that the Wellington centre has gone to so much trouble and provides the demonstration at so much personal sacrifice, it is hoped that the attendance of the public will be representative and large. We sincerely hope that as a result of the visit no time will be lost in forming a local branch of the society and the purchase of necessary equipment before the seaside season opens, in order to safeguard the lives of those who visit our resort. We have discovered a local resident, Mr O’Brien, who holds the certificate and medallion of the society, who informs us that he will be only too pleased to render ail the assistance in his power to assist in the formation of a local branch. The success of to-morrow’s demonstration and the advisability of forming a local branch of the society now- rests with the local public- The Wellington centre has done its part nobly and it now remains for local enthusiasts to complete the good work inaugurated by our Wellington friends.

The following are the names of the demonstrating parly : —Messrs G. S. Hill, chairman ot society ; J. A. Duffy and G. H. Neal, instructors ; W. C. Collier, secretary ; J. H. Kober, li. J. Deslaudes, L- W. Robertson, A. H. Ross, F. J. Wilson. A. M. Russell,' S. Tandy, R. J. Skinner.
