SWISS IMMIGRANTS.
“Swiss immigrants,’’ remarked a Waimate Plains farmer a day or two ago, “are boring their way steadily into this district, and they have now a fairly firm foothold on the land here. Arid don’t you make any mistake about it, once they get in they will remain In. Last year,’’ he added, “a Swiss came to me and without beating about the bush, made me an offer to lease my farm at £3 5s an acre, and right off, too, he offered me a head for the whole of the herd, including half-a - dozen heifers, I refused the offer, but he look up a good farm elsewhere in the district, and, judging by the look of things, he appears to be doing all right.”—Waimate Witness.
