The Manawatu Herald. Tuesday, October 19, 1915. WARSHIPS AND GUNS.
In Cassier’s Engineering Monthly there recently appeared a tabulated statement of the armament carried by British and German battleships, battle - cruisers, and armoured cruisers. By this publication, which is regarded as being particularly well informed, it is estimated that the British Navy possesses to day about thirty battleships of the new types, together with 33 pre-Dreadnoughts, 10 battle cruisers, and 29 armoured cruisers. On the other hand, Germany is accredited with 17 Dreadnought battleships, 19 vessels of the earlier era, five battle cruisers, and five armoured cruisers. The statement of the armament of these ships furnishes striking evidence of the enterprise shown by the British authorities. The contrast is as follows : British, German,
