BOWLING.
The official opening of the local bowling green will take place tomorrow afternoon, at 2.30 o’clock. The green is in good order, and given tine weather, a very enjoyable afternoon should result. Unfortunately this year the official opening of several of the greens are clashing, which will interfere with the attendance of visiting bowlers. Shannon and Terrace End also open their greens tomorrow, so that it is unlikely either club will be represented at the local opening. The Levin Club has signified its intention of sending a party of players over, and it is possible that the Esilding Club will also be represented. The public are invited to be present. The Mastertou Club is the holder of the coveted Dixon Cup. The pedestal having no further capacity for carrying the names of holders of the trophy, its owner, Mr Shep, Dixon, of Palmerston, has very generously presented a challenge shield to go with it, and Mastertou has had this trophy handed over to it. “It is without doubt the best challenge shield in the Dominion,” says the Wairarapa Age.
