CORRESPONDENCE.
(To the Editor)
Sir.— A short time ago yon drew attention to the fact that letters posted in local pillar boxes on Saturday afternoon are not delivered in Wellington or Palmerston until the following Tuesday. Permit me to furl her point out that letters posted in these boxes any day after 2 p.m. do not go forward (south) until. 3 p.m, the following day. I think, sir, with the growing population and importance of our town, that the Postal Department be asked to provide us with an early morning or late evening clearance. There is also -the matter of closing our outward important mails at 8 p.m. ready for despatch next morning. This, no doubt, was unavoidable in the old coaching days when the ’bus left Foxton at 5 a.m., but with the now “up-to-date” motor service, correspondence posted at the post office before 6 a.ra. should surely be included in the first despatch. As matters now stand, a letter has to be posted at Foxton post oftice (not pillar box) by 8 p.m. over night if it is desired that it go forward by the following day’s mail to Wellington. In short, we have a mail closing nearly 12 hours before it leaves the town. —I am, etc,,
Business,
