PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH.
ANNUAL MEETING
The annual meeting of the local Presbyterian Church was heldjou Thursday evening. The Rev J. Doull, M.A., interim moderator, presided over a satisfactory attendance. The annual report and balance-sheet was submitted by Mr Claris, and after lavourable comment, was unanimously adopted. The report and balancesheet of the Ladies’ Guild was submitted and adopted. It disclosed what an important adjunct the guild Is to the financial and social life of the church, and that its sixth year gives promise of continued vitality. The following committee of management was unanimously elected: Messrs Claris (secretary), Barr, Buglass, Couples, Parkes, McCall, T. Henderson, Jno. Ross, and Renton, with Messrs Speirs and Hornblow ex-officio members. Votes of thanks, accompanied by appreciative reterences, were passed to the Ladies’ Guild, secretary, organist (Mrs Claris), choirmaster (Mr Buglass), Sunday school superintendent fMr Hamilton) and staff, Bible class, and others, for devoted services. A motion was carried urging the congregation to universally adopt the envelope system of giving. It was pointed out that if this system were generally adopted it would place the finances of the church on a sound basis and obviate the necessity of special efforts. The moderator congratulated the congregation upon the financial position of the church and the vitality of its various organisations, which gave great promise for the future. If they continue to progress as at present, it should not be long before their minister would be able to djvote all his time to Foxton. He paid a tribute to the good work being done by the Ladies’ Guild and office bearers. The moderator stated at the conclusion of the above meeting that the induction of the Rev Mr Bredin would take place at 3 p.m. on Wednesday next. He (Rev Mr Doull) would induct and address the minister, the Rev Mr Wilson would preach, and the Rev Mr Evans would address the congregation. The meeting decided that a public welcome would take place in the Masonic Hall at 8 o’clock in the evening, and a committee of ladies and gentlemen were appointed to arrange details.
