MAORI PATRIOTIC CONCERT.

The*Ab£fl€ concert company, who are touring in support of the Maori Patriotic Fund, gave a . concert in the Town Hall last night, to a fair and keenly appreciative audience. The programme consisted of hakas, including the Pubikura haka which is danced by the Maori warriors at the front, and which so impressed the Imperial troops in Egypt and at Gallipoli, poi dances including the Huia Poi, Raukawh and Tainui. The tableaux depicting Maori scenes of the past were excellent. The vocal items included the latest patriotic and other songs all well interpreted and deservedly encored. A Maori boy, with a fine soprano voice, sang “ Home Sweet Home” in Maori. The tune suits tne Maori temperament, and the song* was one of the best items. The Misses Hohipiiba in their duets were very successful. The concert as a whole is novel and entertaining and merits, apart from the deserving object, the best public patronage in every community. The Mayor spoke a few words of welcome prior to the opening and referred to the part the Maoris are taking in the Empire’s cause against the enemies of liberty and righteousness.
