If he could only know the things that are on this green Earth, the emerald jewel of the universe, with its great seas that shimmer to him like opals and its polar snow-caps that are as purest pearls, what would he think of our Humanity which had allowed a brigand state to grow up in the core of it and had not throttled the Prussian when his ‘frightfuluess’ first displayed itself among the nations ?”
