BULB SHOW.
The total entries at the Bulb Show to-day number one or two in excess of last year, about 250. The best filled classes are 3 blooms double daffodils, 15 entries ; medio coronati, 3 blooms, bi ■ colour, eleven entries ; specimen bloom, eleven entries, raagnicoronati, 3 blooms, bi-colour, 10 entries; double daffodils, nine entries. There were only five entries for the Citizen’s Trophy for three distinct varieties of daffodils. In sixteen classes there were no entries. The children’s cookery class is an addition this year, but the entries are not as numerous as was expected. The exhibits, however, are very creditable. The blooms on the whole compare very favourably with past exhibits as to quality, but there is not the same variety as last year. The citizen’s trophy was won the second year in succession by Mr Rockel, of Carnarvon, with Mrs Signal second and Mrs W. E. Barber third. Mrs Harris officiated as judge of the blooms and Mrs Prouse, of Levin, of the decorative and children’s cookery. Speaking of the cookery, class Mrs Prouse said the children’s exhibits were really first class. The decorative is an improvement on last year and great taste is displayed in this connection. Ihe judge expressed disappointment that with the wealth of blooms there was so little competition in bouquets. Mrs Prouse said the Show, as a whole, was very good indeed. The full prize list will appear in our next issue.
