CONSERVING OUR GOLD COINAGE.
In the House Mr W. H. Field asked the Minister of Finance whether he will lake counsel with the ablest bankers and other financial authorities in the Dominion for the purpose of deciding upon the best means of conserving onr gold coinage and other financial resources in our own country during the war, so that we may he the better prepared for the heavy Tales ot interest and general depression which it is generally predicted will fall upon ns after the war comes to a close ? Sir Joseph Ward (Minister for Finance) replied that this was a matter which had already been considered by the Government. Shortly after the outbreak of war tbe exportation of gold coinage was stopped. The question of utilising our resources in connection with the war is also receiving full consideration Irom the Government.
