HOCKEY.
The hockey match played on the racecourse yesterday alternoon, between Shannon and Foxton was a fairly strenuous one, the result taing a win for Foxtou by the narrow margin of one goal after a particularly hard fought game. In the first spell, honours were even, each side scoring two goals. In the second spell each side put forth all their energies in an endeavour to penetrate their opponents defence, and eventually a fine dash by the home team was rewarded by S. Bryaut scoring. Recognising, now, that they were "up against it" the Shannon players attacked persistently, but Foxtou's defence was almost perfect. Time and again Shannon returned to the attack, but their efforts were unavailing, and the whistle put an end to what was undoubtedly the most exciting game played this year. Yesterday's win puts Foxton well in the lead for the Horowhenua Association's competition.
