GALICIAN PETROLEUM INDUSTRY.
About 80 per cent, of the aggregate production of petroleum in Galicia comes from the Drobobyez, Boryslav, and Tustanowice concerns. A great deal of English, French, and Belgian capital is invested in these undertakings. Some of the Galician petroleum refineries, which, all told, number about 60, are, as far as is known, intact, whilst others, situated in Central Galicia and on the slopes of the Carpathians, notably Limanova and Marlatnbol, belonging to the Galician Carpathian Petroleum Company have been entirely or partly destroyed by fire. When Galicia was occupied by the Russians, the Mining Department of Petrograd despatched a commission of experts, in order to investigate and report on the country’s petroleum industry. Fears had been entertained that more especially Southern Russsia might expect a keen competition from the Galician petroleum industry, on account of which protests were already raised arr Inst Galician petroleum being imported into Russia free of duty. Although the Galician petroleum industry shows a decreasing yield since the year 1909, the production during the year 1913, the last year of normal working, amounted to 1,063,283 tons,
