CLOSER SETTLEMENT.
QUESTION IN THE HOUSE. Replying to a question by Mr W. H. Field, in the House of Representatives, concerning the proposed acquisition by the Government of lauds in the Foxton and Levin districts for close settlement purposes,- the Prime Minister stated that a preliminary report had been received, and the owners communicated with as to terms. As we have previously stated a petition has been forwarded to the Premier signed by over 500 local residents, praying the Government to acquire adjacent land for the purpose ot closer settlement. Mr W. H. Field M.P. has the matter in hand and as stated above a preliminary report has been submitted to the Government by the Lauds Department. Details ol further negotiations will he awaited with interest, as Foxton's intiue depends in large measn.e upon the closer settlement of the land in this district.
